Clinics and Play

• Clinics are open to ALL MEMBERS.  Course play is open to FULL MEMBERS or Basic/Limited Golf Packages (a round will be deducted)

• Participants receive handouts on the weekly skill tip and game tip.

Instruction tip clinics are 45 minutes (20 minutes at the practice facility with demonstrations and a short practice and 20 minutes on course with live application!) and cover topics such as putting, chipping, pitching, sand, full swing and more.  Game topics include a wide variety of topics, all designed to make a newcomer feel more at home when playing golf (i.e. handicapping, cart maneuvering, rules, how to's, gamemanship, etiquette and more).

• Play formats include either Individual Par Strokes Scoring or Team Scrambles from very select teeing ground distances... all designed to keep play fun and timed within pace.

Play Pointers

Please monitor your Pace of Play so you can feel comfortable fitting into the mainstream golf culture at The Landings Club:  2 hours 9 holes or 4 hours 18 holes whether 1 of 4 players in a group. (@ 13 minutes / Par 3, 14 minutes / Par 4 and 15 minutes / Par 5).

As part of training for new golfers, our expectation is that participants will adhere to this Pace of Play guideline in order to learn how to eventually play comfortably within the expected timeframe.  There will be regular member play following Launch into Golf tee times - thank you for respecting all golfers while learning to play the game!  To help place of play, we follow the Tee It Forward national program, as well as Par Strokes Scoring system.

New Golfer Play Guidelines followed in Launch into Golf
The Landings Golf Professional Staff hopes that you will enjoy playing anywhere up to 9 holes during the Play Day from the various tees. EVERY golfer has the right to be able to reach a par 3 in 1 shot, a par 4 in 2 shots and a par 5 in 3 shots with anywhere from a short to long club.  Many golfers remain playing where others in their groups are playing from but might be too long for them (we're all DIFFERENT!) but we highly encourage Launch into Golf participants to play from the starting area that allows them to reach the green in 'regulation'.  People in the same group and of the same gender can easily play from different teeing grounds.

The 'right' way is what you make of it.  In competition, you might be required to play from a certain set of tees, but while you are learning, this progression will help you learn more quickly, play more quickly and have much more FUN!

Launch into Golf Play Divisions

Ladies: Pitch & Putt, Blue Level 1 Tees, Skidaway Tees and some Forward Tees

Men: Pitch & Putt, Blue Level 1 Tees, Skidaway Tees, Forward Tees, Medal Tees and some Club Tees

Start Here!

1. VERY NEW GOLFER PITCH & PUTT DIVISION:

• Play our PITCH & Putt Course

• Begin roughly 30-50 yards from the green, select a fun spot and place your golf ball on the grass.

• The group can play a Scramble as a team (recommended) or Individual Play.

INDIVIDUAL: Pitch / Chip and then putt.  Players are allotted 2 chances to get onto the green and 3 chances to putt into the hole.  Pick up and place ball on the green after two attempted chips if not on. Pick up if not 'holed out' on the putting green after three attempts and proceed to the next hole.

GROUP SCRAMBLE: Everyone hits the first shot.  Select the best one and then bring all golf balls to that place and play from there.  Mark the position of the selected ball with a tee to the right side @ 3" from the ball.  Continue this process onto the green (always the best place) and also in putting (always from the best putt) until the ball is in the hole.  If the group has reached 5 strokes and isn't holed out yet, pick up and proceed to the next hole.

• Just get a taste of golf at a very easy level!

When to Advance? If you are scoring individually at 3 or less on all holes, you're ready to move on when comfortable!

2. PGA BLUE LEVEL 1 FAMILY TEE DIVSION:

• Play our PGA Blue Level 1 Tees (see maps at golf shop and also on THIS LINK).

GROUP SCRAMBLE: See formats in previous section

INDIVIDUAL:  Par Stroke Scoring.  3 swings to get on a Par 3 / 3 chances to putt into the hole. 4 swings to get on a Par 4 / 4 chances to putt into the hole. 5 swings to get on a Par 5 / 5 chances to putt into the hole.  Swing twice and miss, pick up and bowl/throw forward for Pace of Play.  All this counts as one shot.

When to Advance? If you are scoring individually at or below the Par Stroke Score for at least 4 times or can reach the Par 4's in one or Par 5's in two shots.

3. PGA GOLF LEVEL 2 FAMILY TEE DIVSION (Skidaway Tees):

• Play our Skidaway Tees

INDIVIDUAL PLAY or GROUP SCRAMBLE: See Blue Level 1 section for format.

When to Advance? If you are scoring at or below the Par Stroke for at least 4 times or can reach the Par 4's in one or Par 5's in two shots.  If this is a comfortable length for you, stay on these tees and being keeping score without picking up, using traditional Stroke Play Scoring including penalties and a 10 maximum on any given hole.

4. FORWARD TEE DIVSION:

• Play our Course Forward Tees

• INDIVIDUAL PLAY or GROUP SCRAMBLE: See Blue Level 1 section for format.
