Play Pointers

Pace of Play

Please monitor your Pace of Play so you can feel comfortable fitting into the mainstream golf culture at The Landings Club:  2 hours 9 holes or 4 hours 18 holes whether 1 of 4 players in a group. (@ 13 minutes / Par 3, 14 minutes / Par 4 and 15 minutes / Par 5).

Teeing Grounds
Teeing Ground Options during a Scramble can include anywhere from 50 yards from the green to the Blue Level 1 Family in-ground tees (map at each shop or CLICK HERE), Skidaway Tees, Forward Course Tees or Medal Tees (men).

The Landings Golf Professional Staff hopes that you will enjoy playing anywhere up to 9 holes during the Play Day from the various tees. EVERY golfer has the right to be able to reach a par 3 in 1 shot, a par 4 in 2 shots and a par 5 in 3 shots with anywhere from a short to long club.  Many golfers remain playing where others in their groups are playing from but might be too long for them (we're all DIFFERENT!) but we highly encourage Farm Team participants to play from the starting area that allows them to reach the green in 'regulation'.  People in the same group and of the same gender can easily play from different teeing grounds.

The 'right' way is what you make of it.  In competition, you might be required to play from a certain set of tees, but while you are learning, this progression will help you learn more quickly, play more quickly and have much more FUN!

Individual Play Formats:

Play the Wave!  Like learning any new sport or activity, breaking it into smaller and more manageable stages can help make the learning process smoother and more fun.  Learn to PLAY and SCORE the game by starting close to the hole and advancing back when scoring goals are achieved. Begin from the closest level. Play until you finish 9 holes at Level 1 at the target score.  Repeat at Level 2 until target score achieved.  Repeat at Level 3 until target score achieved. Advance to the next level.  See the chart below.

Par Strokes Scoring is a great format you can play with even veterna golfers.  You play this format while they play theirs and pace of play moves along nicely!

Par 3: 3 chances to get onto the green / 3 chances to putt into the hole

Par 4: 4 chances to get onto the green / 4 chances to putt into the hole

Par 5: 5 chances to get onto the green / 5 chances to putt into the hole

If not on the green in the allotted strokes, you must pick up and place the ball somewhere on the green to start putting.  Remember, you're responsible to help kepe the pace of play moving.

If you don't need to pick up but made it on or in within the allotted strokes, make a star next to you number. As you improve, see more and more stars on your scorecard!

Group Play Formats

Scramble Format from either the Family Tees (in-ground blue fairway markers, map and scorecard in each golf shop or Skidaway Tees if appropriate length where you can reach a par 4 in 2 shots easily).  Each person tees off.  Select the best shots and then pick up remaining golf balls and play from the best place.  Repeat even in putting until ball goes into hole and onto the next hole!

Modified Alternate Shot is a faster format in which both / all players tee off, select the BEST drive and then take turns hitting that one ball into the hole, including taking turns in putting.
